A bold reinterpretation of the Craftsman style, this blend of open spaces with its integration of daylight from picture and clerestory windows brings a beautifully nuanced and three-dimensional quality to the design.
Indicative of the owners’ unique and decisive personalities, the design combines influences from Hawaii, The Rocky Mountains and the South for a home that is unique to its location, but not out of place.
The scale of the interior detail and connection to the exterior landscape alternately invites refreshing solitude in private spaces, or warm and welcoming socializing in the kitchen, family room and outdoor areas. The design’s crisp lines extend to the leathered granite kitchen island, which terminates in a raised eat-in table near the sitting room to accommodate both communal cooking and conversation. Millwork boxes defining the interior spaces wrap from one room to the next, changing function depending on the room. The TV cabinet and fireplace in the family room transform into full-height pantry cabinets in the kitchen. The wood paneled stair wall unfolds to reveal a wet bar open to the sitting room. The master bedroom with its custom designed furniture provides a mellow and soothing sanctuary from the day’s work, with hand-painted walls providing a stunning backdrop.
Full-height window systems maintain a connection to the exterior landscaping, and a recessed door leads to a private screen-porch retreat at the rear of the home. A reflecting pool extends from the dining area to link interior with exterior, and stepping-stones “float” across the water to allow guests to spill out into the evening air after a hearty meal. During daylight hours, reflections of sunlight ripple across the family room ceiling through the shears at the windows.
